God help me, I give up! ... Feeling frustrated? Have you ever said, “I can't, I can't do it, I give up!” The harder you try it seems the harder you fall. You may feel like you have miserably failed to walk the Christian walk. But be of good cheer there is real hope in Christ Jesus.
Whisper a prayer,... "God help me to understand."
We are to follow Christ's example and live Holy lives for it is written, "Be Ye Holy for I AM Holy. Living a life of Holiness is very important to God.
We Are to follow Christ's example... but what did He really teach us by His example? How did Jesus AS A MAN, fully human be able to Keep all the Laws of God?
Meditate on what Jesus said to the rich young ruler when he called Jesus "Good teacher". Jesus answered him and said , "Why do you call me good, there is none good but My Father in Heaven." There is a key here to understanding How Jesus in His humanity lived that perfect life.
Jesus relied only on Father in Heaven, completely surrendering to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
We will never find victory over the sin nature that is in us no matter how hard WE try to Work it out. But this story is not over yet. We have Good News. The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Cor 1:18-19NKJV
When you received Jesus as your Savior
you're saying in essence, “God help me, save me, Lord I can not save
myself.” The Law of God is good and Holy and righteous but the law can
not make us good, Holy or righteous. The Law simply points out where we fail.
Yet after a true conversion you can see evidence of a changed life. You find yourself despising your own old behavior. Things you did before, you don't want to do any more. At first it was so easy, your trust was in Jesus. You delighted in doing things that please God. He was your First LOVE. But as time passed, subtly things may begin to change. What can happen?
1. As time passes even with all your good intentions of attempting to keep the law of God, you can find yourself failing to keep it. What we call 'the flesh' naturally tries to stay alive. Our old man does not want to die easily. The natural reaction to law is rebellion against the law. A "Don't tell me what to do" attitude is in our very nature.
At times without warning you can fall (backslide) into the very old things you now hate. It's so frustrating. You can try with all you strength yet fail. Then instead of calling "God Help me" your own conscience condemns you. You become SIN CONSCIOUS which causes you to run from God. Don't let guilt stop you from uttering those simple yet profound words...
"God Help me."
“Oh wretched
man that I am!” (Rom 7:24)
2. The other
thing that could happen swings over to the opposite side.
Some
can be deceived into thinking to highly of one self trusting in
their own abilities. They can think they don't really need to say,
"God Help me", because they think they're doing pretty
good on their own. The attitude is more like... God saved me, now I
tow the line and do the rest.
They become legalistic and judgmental. They condemn others who fail the standards that they think they should be doing. They boast, if only in their heart and think, “I thank you God that I am not like or not as bad as that other one.” They make excuses when they fail. Some have adopted their own standard of judgment disregarding the perfect standards of God.
They say' I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'. (Rev 3:17) They may think, I'm good, I'm so much better compared to than that other guy... Not realizing the only standard there is for comparison in God's eyes is the perfect Law of God which no man can pass save Jesus Himself.
They may look good on the out side but are guilty of presumptuous sins. Inside they may struggle with secret sins, things no one else sees. And they don't realize the secret sins may be worse than the open sins of others. They may even deny that they have sinned yet all have sinned.
Bible verses tell us all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. There is
no one that is righteous. God help me if I think I am holier then thou. To pray, "God help me show me my
sin,” is a prayer He will surely answer. But God does not condemn us. God will lift us up and teach us how to walk in His ways.
Some may go through a series of guilt and shame. Others are guilty of self righteousness. If you see your sin and feel like the finger of God is pointing at you calling you a hypocrite. Know that it is NOT GOD condemning you. God is Not mad at you. God is NOT the accuser. But it is Satan who is the lair, the accuser of the brethren. Jesus is Savior, He did not come to condemn the world but to save it.
You really do love God, your not a hypocrite! From deep inside, you want to do good and please God. Remember your first love. Do the first works.
If only you knew how.
Pray, God Help me to understand the Gospel. Gospel means “good news” and there is very good news for you.
Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. You have been trying to do something that you were never meant to do. “God Help me” must become the constant cry of your heart. It is God who works it in us to do good. Jesus said there is no one who is good but God. It's not you who do it but He who is in you is the one who does it.
The
Law of God is good but it only serves to show you where you have
failed. The Laws purpose is to point you to Jesus to be saved. You can
not keep the law in your flesh. The Law points to Jesus and says... YOU NEED JESUS!
If you try to do “good works” in the flesh, they are nothing but wood hay and stubble. If it is not done in the Spirit it is not pleasing to God.
To walk the walk of a Christian is not for the coward. It takes courage to die to self and live unto God, But it's not your courage!
It took a hero to make it possible. But your not the hero.
It took a King to make us part of a kingdom. It is not about you at all.
It is all about Christ and Him crucified. It is all about the victory that Jesus won on the Cross - Nothing added. Therein is the Victory and nothing else will do. If you can grasp this fully you will understand how perfectly God has answered the prayer," God Help Me". You will remember how it was when you had your first love and you will do the first works of resting in Him alone.
Jesus relied on His Father for everything when he was in the flesh. This was the example that Jesus gave us. We must follow in His foot steps. Jesus died to Himself and lived unto the Father paving the way for our victory. If only we could learn how by His example. Jesus said, “ follow me”, so we must do as He did. Relying on God and God alone and not our own abilities will bring victory in our life.
We will fail if we attempt to keep the letter of the
law. And if we fail we have an advocate with the Father... 1 John 2:1-2
1' My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.' NKJV
Jesus only did what He saw the Father do and by doing that He paved the way for us. We can not win the battle over the law of sin and death (our sin nature) when we try to win it with the law of our mind. The will to do good is within us but how to preform it is not in us.
But when we will to serve the law of God with our mind, yet with the flesh fall into sin, we can thank God that our deliverance has come - through Jesus Christ our Lord! For there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus!!! We should Not be sin Conscious but rather Righteous Conscious for:
All our sins HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN US -Past,
Present and Future!!!
REST in HIS FINISHED Works.
This is the Gospel, the GOOD NEWS!

The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Cor 1:18-19NKJV
If
we would only rely on God and not our own strength in every thing we do
we would be saved, victorious over what ever problem we face. Enter His rest.
Rest in His finished work. Know YOU Are accepted in Him, it's not about what you did, it's about what HE DID. Believe the Gospel!
The only hope we
have is to fall on the Grace of God Himself and by His mercy His Spirit will teach you how to walk
after the Spirit. It's a growing process.
His Grace is sufficient for you. In other words,
His Grace is all you need for the victory!
Stay in that place where you can only say, "God Help me." LET God do it in you. Now you'll be ready for whatever God has for you. Miracles can happen when you keep your eyes on Jesus.
WITH God All Things are possible. Keep your eyes on Jesus. This is the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
Prosper in all things and be in health. 3John 1:2
